Designed by two young architects, Gabriel Grinspum and Mariana Simas (currently working for Marcio Kogan), Pier House is a brand new vacation retreat in Brazil’s Saco Do Mamangua, in Paraty. Finished earlier this year, the small but beautifully formed geometric structure is set in a real natural paradise, a beach with no road access next to a rich tropical forest.

Commissioned by a young Sao Paolo-based couple, the house was designed as two separate elements. The whitewashed lower floor features traditional ‘muxarabi’ perforated wood windows, which allow for naturally controlled lighting inside as well as ventilation throughout the year, while the upper part is made out of metal tiles and prefabricated wooden components, the only way of building on this remote site.
