Raumzeit
Architects Directory 2007
Information
Raumzeit (German for space/time) was founded in Berlin in 2003 by Jan Läufer, Gunnar Tausch and Friedrich Tuczek. They quickly rose to local fame with their award-winning youth hostel near Bremen – a dynamic conversion and extension of a post-war building clad in enamelled glass and aluminium. Currently in the pipeline is a crystalline pool complex for Austria's Vorarlberg region.

Inspiration
As the name implies, Raumzeit take its inspiration from both architecture and science: ‘Mathematical models, complexity, growth patterns and systems theory are all stuff that fuels our imagination,’ they say, ‘but architectural history is a rich resource, too.’
Innovation
Since all the members of Raumzeit teach at architecture schools, the dialogue between theory and practice is an integral part of their agenda. They focus on a combination of typological innovation and spatial imagination and their ongoing interest in spatial theory and mathematical sequences ensures, they say, a coherency of style.
