Unveiled at the end of last year, Virgin Atlantic’s new Gatwick Airport Clubhouse is billed as a ‘place to relax on a lazy morning before a flight’, for the airline’s Upper Class passengers.

Featuring FSC timber flooring and 100% wool carpets (produced with low chemical emissions) - alongside a Cowshed spa, fully stocked with 100% natural products - Virgin have embraced the ecological trend.

Pulled together by London-based architectural practice, FDArchitecture, alongside Virgin Atlantic’s in-house team, the 795 sq m space houses a medley of design features including leather-clad Eames dining chairs, ‘Turtle’ lounge chairs by Pearson Lloyd and Fritz Hansen tables.

Low-fi chocolate shades and the occasional flash of red define the main space, whilst the Cowshed spa and indoor ‘rock garden’ feature glass mosaic walls and natural stone floors.

If a pre-flight massage isn’t for you, take advantage of the state-of-the-art entertainment lounge; 'Internet Forest’ or relax in 'The Snug', where smoked black mirror wall cladding and artwork curated by the young art advocates at Jotta Contemporary, make for some un-airport-esque surrounds.
