Once upon a time, a bereaved widow would dress in black for two years. Gisele Ganne’s Black Widow collection draws from that sartorial reference to create tragic – yet extravagantly glamorous - symbols of loss. We love the scale of these exquisitely dark pieces, which elevates her jewellery far above simple accessories. ‘I am an haute couture jeweller,’ says Ganne. ‘They are body pieces, statements visually and conceptually. All the pieces have a strong story about death, mourning, relationship and divorce. We always say that happy moment are celebrated with jewellery, so I wanted to celebrate tthe sad moments which are also part of our life.’ Ganne, who always knew that she would end up a designer, is currently working on expanding her mourning and divorce jewellery. ‘There is just so much to explore!’ she says.

Would most like to work with: My heart goes out to the French houses. I’d love to work for John Galliano at Dior, or Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. But I also love London, so Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. And I’d love to make jewellery for Tim Burton or Baz Luhrmann movies.
