Art is sometimes most inspiring when it appears unexpectedly, a whimsical adjunct to the everyday spied on the run that makes you stop, for a minute, and smile.

Young London-based illustrator and occasional Wallpaper* collaborator Hellovon (aka Von) has been on our radar for some time. His latest project, Migration, depicts a dizzy flock of birds mid-flight, a billboard sized blow-up of original illustrations.
Like the subjects themselves, the installation underwent a trans-Atlantic migration of its own last month, flown from its temporary site at the Truman Brewery in London’s Brick Lane to a billboard space on the exterior of the Espeis Gallery in Williamsburg, New York, where it will remain until mid-October.
Nothing complicated, political or provocative, for a change, just the quiet sketchings of a talented hand – and an ambitious logistics team for good measure. Click the links on the sidebar for time-lapse video of the work under construction, and a closer look at the artist himself in our slightly intrusive Q&A.
