The latest in a string of new venues celebrating Hong Kong’s chequered heritage, Tycoon Tann occupies a three-storey space in the bustling heart of town. Street level is given over to the Mod Bar, where the glow from Victorian lighting fixtures plays on marble surfaces and antique herbal medicine cabinets- an east-meets-west blend that continues through to the cocktails, incorporating lemongrass and local teas. Upstairs, the mood is contemporary and colourful, with whimsical interpretations of figures from Chinese legend on display and a network of sliding doors that can carve out private niches for diners. The menu is an upmarket take on beloved Hong Kong classics, like fried rice with Yunnan ham and Sakura shrimp or Mangalica pork with honey sauce.
