Rossato evokes la dolce vita through design

Venetian furniture company Rossato creates ‘masterpieces in elegance’

Think of Rossato’s furniture collections as a work of classical, dramatic fiction, set in a grand Venetian house, with ‘la dolce vita’ as protagonist – the attitudes, family values, passions and joys of elegant, Italian life coursing through a handsome and compelling narrative.

Acknowledging the company’s home in the beautiful Venezia region and the territory’s great influence on art, culture, civilization, fine food and wine, Rossato combines expert fabrication and rigorous attention to detail with traditional Italian craftsmanship and artisanal know-how. The company merges multidisciplinary skills and modern technologies to create new levels of luxury for the house’s ‘masterpieces of elegance’  collections.

Rossato’s designs move between technique and art, intelligence and tactility. Each item is a skillful union of fine finishes and quality materials.

Inspired by the furniture of the mid-20th century architecture and design – from Carlo Scarpa and Gio Ponti to Charles and Ray Eames – Rossato’s house aesthetic is clean but original; silhouettes are classical and understated but bold; details are at once simple and sophisticated.

The current collection’s ‘Stamford’ bench, for instance, is an exercise in colour play and a textural contrast between soft suede and fluffy cushion upholstery. The wooden body is characterised by a three-dimensional pattern. Thin, beautifully crafted joints support the seat, while the slim satin brass legs add elegance and lightness. The ‘Lauren’ console is crafted from arches reminiscent of majestic, ancient classical architecture. Its seductive shape is structural, monumental and decorative, a pure form that expresses Rossato’s interpretation of timeless design. The table’s succession of contiguous Carrara marble arches is supported by a folded plate in antique brass and an inlay of triangular elements in Eramosa marble with alternating veins.

This sense of timeless elegance characterised by refined colours, precious materials; a balanced use of proportions and volume; and personality and formal rigour applied to the highest quality furnishings – these qualities remain hallmarks of Rossato’s collections. A flexibility and ability for customising entire, tailor-made collections for prestige clients has attracted bespoke commissions across the fashion, travel, hospitality and automobile industries.

Established in a Veneto region carpentry shop by Antonio Rossato back in 1969, the company began as Rossato and specialised in bespoke furnishings for private and public spaces such as theatres, museums, shops, hotels, villas, concert halls and cruise ships. From the very beginning, customisation and the ability to work on a global scale was key to the business, which introduced new resources and manufacturing know-how, combining ancient craftsmanship and modern technologies.

Some 50 years later, a meticulous competence in both its one-off projects and manufactured pieces comes from Rossato’s combination of artisan knowledge and digital process in the first phases of the production cycle. Every single process requires complete mastery of manual procedures: from veneer to moulding, from shaping to thermoforming, from painting and resin coating on any support to metal plating and welding. For each project, the house’s research team studies and experiments with new solutions, continuously expanding the demands and capabilities of completing complex projects and systems.

The company is future-facing and globally responsible, its furnishings manufactured by processes and treatments that respect nature and sustainability. Designed in a timeless, durable style, Rossato’s pieces provide decades of pleasure, intended to be handed down and cherished across generations. ‘Our work moves between technique and art, between craftsmanship and engineering. We are always searching for new solutions and ideas with which to build what, simply, has not yet been invented,’ says Alessandro Aduso, president of Rossato. Viva la dolce vita.
