Hotel Minho — Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal

In a picture-postcard location with the River Duoro to its south, and the Spanish border to its north, Hotel Minho is a serene and contemporary addition to the area’s traditional hotel scene. Designed by local outfit Virgula i, the aesthetic of the 65-room hotel takes inspiration from Portuguese 1960s architecture and art icons from Warhol to Dali. Locally sourced chestnut woods and white marble clad the roomy interiors, which integrate seamlessly with the exterior courtyards and patios, maximising the amount of natural light. Brightly coloured handmade Burel felt bedspreads brighten up guestrooms, while bespoke furniture pieces such as the Pousada easy chair by architect Januário Godinho have been provided by local brand Paularte. Indulge yourself in the spa with vine treatments influenced by the local surroundings or simply head out to the local countryside and experience the area’s storied fortresses, river valleys and sandy beaches.
