Wallpaper* Handmade with Jaguar makes its London debut at Harrods
In just four editions, Wallpaper's annual Handmade exhibition has established itself as a must-see at Milan's Salone del Mobile. Now, for the first time, Handmade is on the move, arriving at London's Harrods store on 4 October with a spectacular 'best of' presentation topped up with five unique new pieces produced in collaboration with Jaguar.
Handmade is a groundbreaking celebration of contemporary design and craft, as well as cutting edge materials and production techniques, calling on the talents of the world's best designers, artists, makers and manufacturers. Over the last four years, acting as curator, client and creative director, Wallpaper* has brought these talents together to create hundreds of one-off design wonders.
Over 50 Wallpaper* Handmade pieces, produced by the likes of Hermès, Alfredo Häberli, Harry Winston, Konstantin Grcic, Isay Weinfeld, Paul Cocksedge, Michael Anastassiades, the late David Collins, Barber Osgerby, Brioni, Naoto Fukasawa, Louis Vuitton, Sam Hecht and Poltrona Frau to name but a few, will be put proudly on display across 12 windows in the iconic Kensington store. They will be joined by five new concept products, commissioned by Wallpaper* editors and exploring Jaguar's design language and advanced technology, by Moritz Waldemeyer, Neri & Hu, Mathieu Gustafsson, Fredrikson Stallard and Salvatori & Jaguar Advanced Design.
Mark Briggs, Harrods store image director, commented: 'As world leaders in style, design and technology, we are delighted to be working with Wallpaper* and Jaguar to bring the Handmade exhibition from Milan to London for the first time. The world-renowned Harrods windows will present this year's shortlisted designers in the perfect luxury space, for all to see.'
And Julian Thomson, Jaguar Advanced Design director, added: 'This partnership with Wallpaper* is very exciting and it is a great opportunity to apply Jaguar design philosophy in new forms and to inspire a culturally diverse audience. Harrods is an iconic landmark in London and we aim to surprise and delight the people of the city with a selection of unique and intriguing design installations.'
Tony Chambers, Wallpaper* Editor-in-Chief, said: 'Our Handmade project is testimony to the power of good design, great ideas, creative collaboration and quality production. The value of striving to make things better. We are delighted to bring some of the best pieces from our annual celebration of art, craft, skill and vision to London - with the best British partners one could wish for: Harrods and Jaguar.'
With Wallpaper* Handmade now a powerful and resonant brand in its own right, the Harrods exhibition marks the next stage in the development of the project. The five new projects will go on a global tour after leaving London, arriving back in Milan next April in time for the next edition of Salone del Mobile and a brand new Handmade presentation.
