Hockney (1937-) is a highly acclaimed and influential English artist based in Los Angeles. His work is vivid, iconic and often intensely personal: a response to and a conversation with his evolving social and political environment. His colourful and sometimes flamboyant personal life, in London, with Andy Warhol and company in 1960s New York, and in California, have been a ripe source of fascination and inspiration in its own right.
