BESPOKE | SEPTEMBER 2021 | PAOLA LENTI

Bringing the
outdoors in

Paola Lenti harnesses material research, a sustainable approach and effortless style to embrace seamless indoor and outdoor living

Paola Lenti design is a treasure hunt that takes you effortlessly between sylvan, outdoor environments and the warm cocoon of an immaculately considered indoors. Natural textures and bright colours span both sides of the home’s threshold to create welcoming and sophisticated, chromatically consistent, artistically cohesive spaces.

The boundary between exterior and interior becomes an aesthetically harmonious and tonally playful blur. Diverse influences – past and present, tradition and technology – live in continuous dialogue.

Paola Lenti: colour, quality and context

Paola Lenti takes an original, creative approach to material, colour and form to create unique living concepts for both indoor and outdoor collections.

Founded in 1994 in Meda, in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, and led and managed by founders Anna and Paola Lenti, the company is a close-knit community – including engineers, architects, tailors, upholsterers, weavers – all working in collaboration with local craftspeople to best interpret myriad projects across furniture and interiors, design and production.

The company’s entirely Italian, sustainably localised production chain creates environments in harmony with their context, whether natural or architectural, from the fabrics, materials and furnishing elements, to colour palettes and shading structures.

Each Paola Lenti design is created to be timeless in terms of its Italian-made quality, functionality, colour and aesthetics. Always emphasising the inherent quality and potential of each material, colours and dimensions are studied to create harmony without excess. Architectural structures, seating and rugs showcase a coherent style in which nothing is accidental, but all seems to be natural.

Paola Lenti and material research

The study and appreciation of yarns is essential to the Paola Lenti process. Not just in terms of quality and performance but also material experimentation and the valorisation of the yarn characteristics that make them unique.

Rugs and seating collections, both for interior and exterior environments, stand out for their materials and upholstery fabrics, conceived by Paola Lenti and produced exclusively for the company. Each fabric originates from the best natural or synthetic yarns, the result of continuous research and experimentation. This allows for designs for exterior use that are enduring and resistant to sun, sea and swimming pool water.

Fabrics for interior environments include both natural and newly developed man made and offer infinite chromatic combinations.

Structural elements used in furniture designs – including metal, chosen for performance and treated to further improve endurance, wood and stone – are selected in line with the company’s product philosophy.

Since its inception Paola Lenti’s approach has evolved in two directions: the study and development of 100 per cent recyclable materials; and the adoption of 100 per cent sustainable and natural materials, such as hemp, linen, bamboo and igusa. Both polyolefin-based Twiggy yarn and Diade, a patented material, are 100 per cent recyclable, waterproof, easily cleaned and maintained and do not absorb humidity, guaranteeing a well above average resistance to the elements. A full range of new products has been designed in these two new materials, included in the outdoor Aqua collection.

The company has also selected a sustainably cultivated range of natural, renewable materials – such as 100 per cent natural paineira fibre and woollen felt padding – from different parts of the world, for use in the manufacture of its capsule seating collection, Eres.

Through this balanced mix of instinct, creativity and material intelligence, responsibility and rationality, Paola Lenti has transformed existing materials to offer better quality and higher performances, creating essential, contemporary, timeless products. The treasure hunt continues.

Home collection

Paola Lenti’s collections originate from a global vision of living, where objects interact with each other and the architecture of the space where they are set.

Ornamental screens, wall coverings and movable backdrops made of metal, wood, ceramic, and fabric create striking indoor scenery, the perfect context for the brand’s seating, rugs and accessories.

Precious surfaces, such as ancient Italian marble, and wood entirely finished by hand, together with durable and textural fabrics create refined, cohesive spaces.

The hundreds of exclusive, luminous colours are coordinated not only with each other but also with the colours of the outdoor fabrics and materials, allowing for the possibility to establish a dialogue not only between the spaces in the home, but also with exterior spaces.

Design: LAYER x Benjamin Hubert

Nodding to a passion for music, design and craftsmanship, the Beosound Balance speaker by Bang & Olufsen (Denmark) is inspired by interior objects to redefine home audio. A soft, rounded silhouette uses materials such as solid oak and knitted textiles and hides an innovative user interface and seven carefully placed speaker drivers with beam-forming technology. Listeners choose between powerful, room-filling sound for everyday listening, and directional sound for precise and immersive music experiences.

Aqua collection

With the Aqua collection, Paola Lenti envisions a house without walls, where it is possible to enjoy the beauty of nature, while indulging in the comfort of the best interior design. Ideal to create areas of leisure and relaxation outside, the brand’s seating pieces are at once informal and refined. The collection is created using Paola Lenti’s innovative high-tech yarns Rope and Twiggy, and the new, patented material Diade. Entirely recyclable, these materials guarantee excellent performance in terms of durability and resistance to sea and swimming pool water.

Rugs

Each Paola Lenti rug is a unique project, entirely made by hand and made to measure. The rugs give character to an environment, delineate its volume and personalise it. The brand’s rug collections for indoors and outdoors are different as far as materials and performances are concerned, but share the same passion for colour and the pursuit of the best-quality raw materials; the company has unified traditional and modern, natural and high-tech yarns into products destined to become classics for their quality and endurance. Produced and finished by hand in the company headquarters, all rugs interact with each other, through colour affinity or contrast, and can be coordinated with the upholstery fabrics and materials of different collections.

Landscape

Complete architectural settings provide the perfect backdrop for Paola Lenti outdoor seating. Whole environments can be created under shading sails and oversized parasols that identify and define open spaces to offer shelter and intimacy. The characteristics of the various elements – seating, rugs, accessories and shading structures – are coordinated, the myriad hues of the fabrics and upholstery materials attuned to the surrounding environment.
