As far as wine pundits go, Italian-born Enrico Bernardo is a star: the former chief sommelier at Paris’ Four Seasons George V, he also won the coveted World Best Sommelier accolade at only 27 years of age. Now, he has launched a new restaurant where wine and décor both take centre stage. Designed by duo Emma Donnersberg and Michel Amar, the interiors have a theatrical aspect, highlighted by cream, gold and coppery hues, which reflect the colours of the best vintage bottles. Subsequently, everything at Il Vino is staged around the precious elixirs: the menu features wines, not dishes. Guided by a sommelier, one will choose a bottle first and then embark on an exciting journey where the chef cooks a dish that best matches the character of the wine.
