Perfect ten: eco-friendly nail studio Tenoverten brings its allure to New York’s Financial District

When Tenoverten first opened its doors in Tribeca back in 2010, the chic nail studio upended all prevailing conventions of the typical New York nail salon with its sophisticated approach to design, atmosphere and the colours on hand. It quickly went on to launch two other locations in Manhattan along with its own collection of paraben and 5-free nail polishes; formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene, formaldehyde resin and camphor are noticeably absent.

This week, Tenoverten’s founders Nadine Abramyck and Adair Ilynsky unveil a new location in New York’s Financial District – an airy, industrial-accented space that’s unexpectedly nestled on crowded Fulton Street. Tucked away upstairs on the second floor of an old rubber stamp factory, the studio’s interior takes its style cues from a quintessential loft-style apartment with light wood floors, painted white brick walls, vintage light fixtures and through views from one end to the other.

Tenoverten worked with the New York-based design firm, Studio DB, to create the elegant environment that suits its needs. Exposed copper piping brings an industrial yet noble feel to service areas which, rather than being hidden, are kept in full view. Pedicure stations feature custom-made stools that divide into ottomans that provide comfy seating for technicians, while the cork portion securely holds foot bowls once the service is in session. Utilitarian hanging light fixtures, made from hardware components and bare bulbs, provides each room with a cool edge that’s rarely found in nail salons. Large ventilation fans also ensure that the sophisticated space is a healthy space to work in too.

The space’s final finishing touch comes in the form of an expanded apothecary area where Tenoverten’s eco-conscious array of polishes stands proudly with other likeminded beauty brands. Chances are that you won’t be walking out of there empty handed.
