The fastest-ever jaguar.com" target="_blank">Jaguar saloon, designer visions of CHiPs-style vehicles circa 2025, and a Smart car sprouting wings - courtesy of fashion designer Jeremy Scott - were among just some of the more intriguing global unveils of 2012's LA Auto Show.
With California by far the biggest sales region in the US - and also the most significant state for hybrid and full-electric vehicles - plus North America still the second largest market in the world, the LA show is an important auto event from a business and environmental viewpoint.
Luxury and eco were key themes of the physical cars unveiled, from new EVs by Smart, bmw.co.uk" target="_blank">BMW, Chevrolet and Fiat to beautiful sports cars by porsche.com" target="_blank">Porsche and Jaguar. There were also surprising virtual vehicles revealed within the creative context of the Show's LA Design Challenge - where designers from diverse brands are invited to imagine future vehicles around a set theme - this year's task being to design an eco police car for 2025.
There are larger car shows with more new products to view, but the LA Show is still a thoughtful one, and always full of interest.
