Gabo (1890-1977) was a significant twentieth century Russian sculptor involved in the Constructivism movement (art as an instrument to effect social ends) and was a pioneer of kinetic art. His three ‘Opus’ monoprints featured here (he created twelve in total) are two-dimensional representations of sculptural wood engravings ‘stamped’ onto a paper-like surface and manipulated by hand to create varying visual effects.
