Whitechapel Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High Street E1 7QX
An East London institution for over one hundred years, the Whitechapel Gallery is responsible for bringing contemporary art to the east end. Originally built by Robbrecht en Daem architects in 1901, the iconic redbrick gallery was given a major overhaul in 2009 at the hands of Witherford Watson Mann, bringing together the gallery itself and the former library on Whitechapel High Street. With abundant extra space, including transformed galleries, education spaces and collection displays, the century old institution has finally made its way into the 21st century. %A
