Maurice Lacroix approached Wallpaper* last year with the idea of a collaboration - a reinterpretation of the brand's iconic 'Pontos Décentrique GMT' watch by influential international designers. In this ambitious 2011 edition of the project, Maurice Lacroix and Wallpaper* asked a powerhouse trio - Spanish furniture designer Patricia Urquiola, Italian architect Rodolfo Dordoni, and Belgian fashion designer Kris Van Assche - to reimagine the Swiss watchmaker's Red Dot award-winning timepiece with their own one-off design. When the three designs were launched at the Baselworld watch fair in March, watch aficionados applauded the fact that each designer had stayed true to the DNA of the original while injecting clear traces of their personality. While we've had to fend off querulous buyers waving chequebooks, the good news is that from 1 to 22 June, the watches will be auctioned online at www.antiquorum.com. The proceeds will be donated to a charity close to each designer's heart. Urquiola has nominated Global Diversity Foundation (www.globaldiversity.org.uk); Dordoni, the European Oncological Institute (www.ieo.it); and Van Assche, UNICEF Japan (www.unicef.org).
