Casa Azimute — Alentejo, Portugal

Pop yellow, deep purple and blue – echoed in the cloudless skies and the surrounding wild flowers – are all found in Casa Azimute, a six-bedroom house filled with colourful Portuguese artisanal tiles and locally woven rugs that give the space a soul and a real sense of place.
Owners Danny and Andy have lavished love on this once derelict farmhouse, a long, low-slung building topped with typical squat chimneys used for smoking hams. Beside it now stands the minimalistic, contemporary B&B, where varnished cement floors meets bold, hand-painted tiles, sleek showers or free-standing bath tubs.
Shower on your terrace to the sound of goat bells tingling in the distance, or lie by the pool and watch the sun journey across the sky, over the white-washed hilltop medieval city of Estremoz, in the distance.
