As the niece of Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Marta Sala spent years working at the Milan furniture brand Azucena. Having left the family business last year, she has now leapt into her own venture, Marta Sala Editions. The new brand will debut in its cozy showroom space in Corso Monforte with a 12-piece collection of furniture designed by Rome-based Carl Pickering and Claudio Lazzarini. Sala tapped Pickering and Lazzarini as the first team of what she hopes will be a rotating roster of guest designers. She also lassoed a network of artisans throughout Italy to produce hand-crafted pieces, including a brass-trimmed, upholstered screen with built-in lamps, dining tables that can be reconfigured into desks and leather armchairs with incorporated side tables.
