Long term Portuguese fashion alliance Alves/Gonçalves - best known for drapey, ultra-feminine womenswear - has branched out into beauty. Their new spa, situated in a historical building in the heart of Lisbon’s old town, is a haven for aesthetes in need of a little mind and body restoration.
Esteban’s Cédre essential oil diffuses through the space, which comes dressed in a heady mix of Frank Gehry, Established & Sons and Charles Eames - whilst Alves and Goncalves’s own lighting designs punctuate the space alongside vintage furniture and flea-market finds - such as the shimmering mosaic of tiles in the treatment rooms.
The punch behind the pampering comes courtesy of big name brands ranging from Leonor Greyl and Shu Uemura to Valmont, Pure Altitude, Yves Saint Laurent and Mavala. Hair styling, personalized therapeutic massages and manicures demonstrate typical Portuguese flair – which makes a good old French polish seem a little outdated.
