Richard Woods, our current limited edition cover star (well, designer), has an unusual day job - a lot of which is spent on his hands and knees, printing or laying his trademark flooring. We quizzed him on what the rest of it might involve:
What was the first thing you thought about when you woke up this morning?

Sparkling water
What do you wear to work?
Cheap jeans and a tee shirt (there’s always a lot of paint flying around)
What do you have for breakfast?
Coffee… not much else
Do you read a newspaper/watch television/click online?
Usually I get the Guardian, peep show, IT Crowd on TV, and much time wasting online waiting for another series of You Tube yacht rock
How do you get to work?
Car I’m afraid… three kids to drop at school/nursery before work starts
What time do you first check your inbox?
7.30am if I’ve had a decent night’s sleep
Where are your desk and chair from?
I made them
If you could save only one item from your office/studio what would it be?
My assistants
Do you listen to music whilst you work? If so, what are you listening to at the moment?
Music is on continually today its been Smog, Gill Scott Heron, The Fall, Al Green, Portishead, Ween.
Where would your ideal lunch be and who would it be with?
Not a big lunch person but dinner and drinks with William Morris would have been cool

Print more wood
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Finishing off other peoples sentences
What do you think is the most overrated virtue?
Bill and Jack at the studio say chastity … but I’m not so sure
Is there any single person that particularly inspires you?
You’ve got to admire Mark E Smith’s batteries
Where do you feel most inspired?
The Studio’s the place
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Making a living out of making things
How do you switch off?
I am a hopeless insomniac so sleeping’s never been fun, but going fishing with my eldest son is pretty special
What did you want to be when you were a child?
Footballer…because it was what I thought you did, if you didn’t want a proper job
What excites you/terrifies you on a daily basis?
Drying times of acrylic paint
Would you like to be your own assistant?
I think so; we have a very high laugh factor
Is there anything about retirement you look forward to?
Nope.. Can’t see it happening, fingers crossed
If you could choose to come back as person or thing, who or what would it be?
John Peel (The DJ), he always looked like he was having a good time
