Although the concept of the mix and match salad bar is well-tried in these days of healthy eating, Sla (lettuce in Dutch) in Amsterdam offers a setting that is so fresh that it feels like one is picking luscious produce right out of one's own greenhouse. Conceived by Nina Pierson and Jop van de Graaf, the duo worked together with Dutch interior designers Nicemakers to cultivate an organic look reminiscent of a garden shed, using raw materials such as steel and concrete alongside recycled furniture, lighting inspired by greenhouse lamps, hexagon shaped Winkelmans tiles and an abundance of green plants. The wall-mounted illustrations and artworks by Millou Maass and Elisabeth Leerssen add that last 'earthy' touch to the space.
