Margaret Howell, Autumn/Winter '08 (scroll down to read the review)
Margaret Howell
Margaret Howell, the champion of all things modern, British and Post War (check out her recent reissue of Ernest Race’s ‘Heron’ chair in the March issue of Wallpaper*) prefers not to speak about anything frivolous like inspiration when it comes to her ready-to-wear. Her offer, presented in a no-nonsense kind of way in her London store-cum-gallery evolves slowly season after season, with subtle changes.

One gets the feeling it’s work in progress, a kind of aim to perfect something which takes time, like the very flat lace-ups, now produced in a new leather and shown to full effect with a shorter pant, or the collarless shirt with the teeniest of collar stands. Most wanted were the outerwear and the paisley prints - ‘for a little winter colour,’ according to Howell.
