Back at the end of January we introduced you to the five shortlisted artists for the Ebbsfleet landmark or 'Angel of the South' commission as it’s become known. Just three months on and the five artists have unveiled their proposals. And the results are each spectacular in their own, very different way.

The 50-metre high, £2 million-costing landmark is precisely that, a landmark maybe more than a sculpture. Just as Gormley’s ‘Angel of the North’ was intended as symbolic of a new era of regeneration for northern England, so the Ebbsfleet commission marks the area as the gateway to southern England. Visible from all four points of the compass as well as every approaching road, rail (and air) routes, anyone travelling through Kent will be hard pushed to avoid the colossal artwork.
An exhibition of the five shortlisted proposals by Daniel Buren, Richard Deacon, Christopher Le Brun, Mark Wallinger and Rachel Whiteread will be on display from 27th May to 27th August at the local Bluewater Shopping Centre. The winning entry will be announced shortly after.
