Subtlety and refinement aren’t probably the first words that spring to mind in conjunction with Las Vegas. But nestling in between the slot machines and gilt statues is a new venue, catering for those after a dose of class to complement the decadence.

CatHouse might follow a familiar Vegas formula of combining restaurant, lounge and performance in one venue, but the design and effect is refreshingly chic and reassuringly slick. There’s not an ounce of tack in the décor, which sits somewhere between fin de siecle French bordello and stately ballroom.

A large collection of genuine Nineteenth century photographs and vintage hand mirrors litter the walls. The entrance is imbued with an air of mystery, lined by ornate wooden doorways with peepholes revealing old-school European erotic films. At one side a large mirror sporadically comes to life exposing a CatHouse kitten, seated in front of a period vanity table, grooming herself in preparation for the evening ahead.

Tastefully under-dressed ladies thread their way throughout the tables, where guests can dine on simple fusion fare from the hands of executive chef Kerry Simon. Where CatHouse gets it right is in striving for quality in detail, from the finest ingredients to the authentic décor, to the world-renowned DJs.

Masterminded by one of Australia’s top club owners Billy Cross, together with motorcycle racing champion Mike Doohan, both men are keen to stress the organic nature of the experience as key to the success of the venue: ‘There’s nothing traditional or forced about the experience,’ shares Cross, ‘we’re tapping into the openness of celebrating sexiness in a way that is empowering for all participants.’

We can certainly vouch that the CatHouse experience is a welcome respite compared to so much on offer on The Strip. Authentic quality sets it apart from its neighbouring venues, with no dilution of the entertainment or fun one expects from the bright lights of Vegas.
