Go behind the scenes of Chicago-based duo Luftwerk’s Maison Perrier-Jouët project for Design Miami
For the past five years, the venerable champagne house Perrier-Jouët has been behind some of the most memorable installations during Design Miami. Maison Perrier-Jouët has tripled its efforts this year, not only commissioning the Chicago-based artist duo Luftwerk to design its showpiece at the fair, but are also working with them on an epic takeover of the Herzog & de Mueron-designed carpark, 1111 Lincoln Road, plus another presence at Miami airport.
Formed by Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, Luftwerk manipulates light and colour into projections that poetically intervene with a specific site, while always respecting its historical, cultural and physical contexts. Their past undertakings have included Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House and Fallingwater.
For Perrier-Jouët, the duo drew from the house’s art nouveau heritage to interpret the idea of nature for a digital age. In this video, they take us through their inspirations and journey for Becoming – the piece at Design Miami. ‘We’re creating a shift in perception revealing familiar places in unexpected ways,’ says Gallero
