The design calendar’s most significant event is fast approaching. Assembling in Milan, devotees will be prepping to take on the city for the annual Salone del Mobile (12-17 April), marking the unofficial start to the design season. The ever-growing affair spreads itself over the Italian metropolis from pockets of Brera district travelling all the way to the Rho fairground with the vast installations, new releases and parties getting even more avant-garde and innovative each year. Our favourite prickly coat rack, Gufram’s iconic ’Cactus’ is getting a psychedelic reimagining courtesy of Paul Smith. As part of the Italian brand’s 50th anniversary the irreverent piece enters a new, 1970s-inspired dimension (pictured) for a limited edition of 196. Groovy celebrations are sure to ensue.
