Salone del Mobile 2016 preview
The design calendar’s most significant event is fast approaching. Assembling in Milan, devotees will be prepping to take on the city for the annual Salone del Mobile (12-17 April), marking the unofficial start to the design season. The ever-growing affair spreads itself over the Italian metropolis from pockets of Brera district travelling all the way to the Rho fairground with the vast installations, new releases and parties getting even more avant-garde and innovative each year. The latest in a long line of tributes to Brazilian design comes in the guise of Milan’s great Nilufar Gallery. Celebrating the work of six greats from 1940–1970, the exhibition will feature the furniture of José Zanine Caldas, Martin Eisler, Oscar Niemeyer, Sergio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro and Jorge Zalszupin. The via della Spiga outpost will also inaugurate its own atelier of contemporary rugs, with special pieces designed by textile greats Jorge Lizarazo and Haynes Robinson.
