Give the slip
31 October
This week on Wallpaper.com, we’re waxing lyrical about pared-back minimalist style, that subverts seasonal trifles and attention seeking Instagram aesthetics. Enter elegant label Refine, which celebrates the enduring appeal of the slip dress, with a collection of slinky separates, from spaghetti strap camisoles to fluid, bias cut skirts in satin silk. Each piece is made in Italy with an environmentally-friendly artisanal-focused approach, and the label works with small family run specialists, and works to keep its ecological footprint as small as possible. What’s more, Refine places focus on sustainable materials: its PVC is petrol chemical free and its paper packaging is FSC certified. So when you feel the need to next slip into something seasonless and seductive, we suggest you shop at Refine.

Milan magic
30 October
Just like the running cartoon doll – spiky haired, clad in wide legged jeans and circular shades – erected on the facade of Milaura Milano Dress Code – you’ll soon be making a dash to the wonder-filled womenswear boutique’s new location on Corso Garibaldi. Inside, the space’s neon orange and mustard tones are even more enchanting, and illuminate the wares of over 250 global brands, from &Daughter to Studio Nicholson, carefully curated by the store’s founder Laura Poretti. We’re particularly enamoured by the boutique’s cosy changing room area, defined by retro hues, minimalist furniture and a large circular mirror. Race you inside!

Got sole?
29 October
Originally designed in the late 1940s to protect French paratroopers from the hostile environments, Palladium’s archive field boots have now been reissued with a contemporary twist in a collaboration with Parisian brand Kenzo. Still made with the idea of exploration in mind, the Pallashock sneakers are a robust offering for fashion-forward voyagers. Textile uppers appear in five of Kenzo’s familiar bold colours while padded ankles provide support across tricky terrains. You’ll be sure to leave a lasting impression with the treaded rubber sole.

It’s knit
25 October
As we enter the colder months of the year, we suggest you lay hands on lovable knitted layers with style and ethics to keep you warm. Boasting timeless and functional designs, RUS is a new Spanish brand imagined by Patricia and Inés Gutierrez, creating high quality cosy knits inspired by artistic and architectural expressions. Based in Galicia, Spain, the two sisters work with a family-owned factory in the North of Portugal and use carefully selected yarns from Italian spinners. For their first collection, The Ritual, they’ve imagined the RUS woman as a muse taking part in a mystical act of getting dressed – an intimate moment where one gets ready to face the outside world involving tactile and visual experiences. The results include layered warm bulky yarns with finer mohair and alpaca blends to either protect or reveal the skin. Snuggly knitwear for getting cosy in this winter, whatever your discipline.

Learn the Yard way
24 October
Marc Newson’s work is characterised by a smooth sci-fi line. Throughout his career he has applied this rigour to multiple design projects resulting in modular 3-part sneakers for Nike and thermo-formed 3D knit soft luggage for Louis Vuitton. An unequivocal utilitarianism thrums throughout this work. This month sees the launch of a meeting of minds between Newson and the storied Australian bootmaker R.M.Williams, their first collaboration in 87 years. ‘As an Australian, I was thrilled to have been asked to do this because it is such an iconic thing, I grew up with this product. I’ve had a pair of these boots since I was ten years old…’ Newson says. He has spent almost two years reworking and refining the look of the classic Gardener Boot, applying a moulded wedge sole and bringing the elastic side panels and pull tab together into one fully-knitted piece. Ungendered and unfettered, his Yard Boot 365 is a modern-day, minimalist style that withstands mud, water and sand and pretty much anything else you might throw at it. ‘In Australia they’re the go-to footwear along with flip-flops and Uggs! It took me a bit of time to figure out where I could add value because this is such a loaded thing for me. It’s not about re-inventing the wheel but showing respect.’
