Hunter creative director Alasdhair Willis has collaborated with design consultancy Checkland Kindleysides on the British brand’s first global flagship that aims to bring the English countryside indoors. Familiar rural architectural structures - such as the wooden barnyard, rock wall and iron farm gate - have been reinterpreted within the Regent Street address, as puddle-shaped display tables and an AstroTurf-lined lift complete the environmental study. The store’s seating areas similarly reference a country house’s boot room, while the first floor has been transformed into a traditional English box-hedged garden with a tiled ’lawn’ to rival the infinity forest of Douglas fir trees planted on the ground floor. Not to say that the 5,300 sq ft space - which will form the basis for future retail developments in Tokyo and New York - isn’t up to speed with the city limits. A vast LED screen picks up where Hunter Original’s S/S 2015 digital show set left off, acting as an adaptable backdrop to the store’s main staircase, affording the opportunity to broadcast real time Hunter events from around the world.
