Store credit: Wanted Design opens its first design shop in Brooklyn’s Industry City
The growing creative community at Industry City—a cluster of recently converted warehouses and offices in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood that houses workspaces for local makers—gets a little bit bigger with the opening of the Industry City Store by WantedDesign. The ground-floor shop opens on this week with a curated selection of goods from US-based design studios including Souda, Juniper Design and Fort Standard, amongst others.
WantedDesign made its debut in 2011 as a trade show during NYCxDesign focused on spotlighting emerging talent and began regularly hosting events at Industry City last year. The store, a natural next step for for the platform, was created as an outlet to showcase contemporary original design—including works by Industry City designers in residence—and will also host special events, such as book signings and designer talks, and curated pop-up shops focused around a single brand, city or country. ’We are excited to actually be pioneers at Industry City and to be a part of the creative community here that we want to collaborate with, promote and support as much as possible,’ says Wanted Design co-founder Odile Hainaut. ’We hope that it will become a destination in Brooklyn for discovering and buying good design.’
The store’s inaugural collection is a mix of home décor (embroidered pillows, lantern-inspired table lamps, handmade furniture), personal accessories (beaded statement necklaces and stationery) and apothecary goods (small-batch soy candles). New additions will be added regularly, and stay tuned for a special holiday gift shop in the coming months.
