Salt & Straw — Los Angeles, USA
Portland-based artisanal ice cream spot Salt & Straw has opened its fourth outpost, this time in Los Angeles’ refreshed arts district.
Dressed by Portland-based Andee Hess of Osmose Design, the blonde wood interiors feature art deco accents and candy-striped arches, while lighting fixtures are swathed in textiles from store awnings past.
Run by Kim Malek and her cousin Tyler – the head ice cream maker – the store’s Oregon roots might be clear, with coffee served by hometown heroes Stumptown, but flavours such as avocado and strawberry sherbet or black olive brittle and goat's cheese, show they have SoCal style down to a sweet science.
The brand is set to expand to West Hollywood in the near future, but for now, it's the perfect treat after an afternoon spent at MOCA Geffen, just blocks away.
