Fab 40: Michelbergerhotel, Berlin
Located next to the Oberbaum Bridge in East Berlin, a bunch of friends decided to open the best hotel in town. 'We believe that character-driven enterprises are the ones that truly succeed and we wanted to create a place to stay which is as creative, honest, laid-back and inexpensive as Berlin is,' says Owner Tom Michelberger. They attracted attention way before the opening by hosting lots of fun building site parties until the launch in September.
Designer Werner Aisslinger transformed the old factory building into 119 loft rooms keeping the original clinker walls and high ceilings. Rooms have different sizes and some can host up to ten people. The décor includes vintage pieces picked from Berlin’s flea markets, sunflower-yellow curtains, and bespoke wallpaper printed with the team’s signature illustrations.
