RAS — Antwerp, Belgium
For its 25th anniversary, the current owners of RAS – an acronym for Restaurant on the Stream – tasked local Antwerp agency Co.studio to refresh the interiors and maximise the connection to the waterfront.
Housed in a building erected in 1989 by architect Bob Van Reeth, the tall glass windows naturally prioritise the serene views over the river Scheldt, but the designers further optimised this, by removing the central bar and creating an uncluttered space, which they filled with teal Eero Saarinen chairs and elegant black glass tables, that smartly reflect the surface of the river.
Meanwhile, tempered lighting and walnut wood flooring, create and intimate atmosphere and soften the strong, architectural lines of the building. The simplicity of the concept extends to the kitchen, where seasonal and local produce define the classics from North Sea sole Meunière to entrecote from Western Flanders.
