Wallpaper* wanted a boat, and if we couldn't have a gin palace, it had to be a design classic. We called on ocean-loving designer and regular Wallpaper* contributor Marian Bantjes to produce plans for a graphically enhanced Laser class dinghy, and she delivered a stunning design that references the cubist patterns of the First and Second World War 'dazzle' naval camouflage. A limited edition of 12 of these works of art are available to order for £10,000, each with its own unique number discreetly moulded into the hull.

Since the Laser's creation in 1969 by Canadians Bruce Kirby and Ian Bruce, almost 200,000 sailboats have been produced. The boat was first conceived by the pair to fit easily on a car roof rack.
Bantjes is the founder of Vancouver graphic design company Digitopolis, but she left the firm in 2003 to concentrate on working with custom type, playful typography-based illustrations and ornamentation.
