Raf Simons
Raf Simons stands apart from the crowd with his modernist approach and always manages to take his collections to places that no other designer has yet been. As is the nature of design, there are bound to be historical references embedded in his work but so subtly that they aren’t obvious at first glance.
Simons’ silhouette is one of the strongest we have seen and is all set to prove to be highly directional. The look is all about elongating the body, with high roll-necks, extended cuffs reaching to the finger tips and wedge-soled shoes adding height. The slim-line look was further enhanced by cutting patterns close to the body and designing trousers that rose at the waist and were long in the leg.
A recurring theme this season was the ‘mummy’ style wrap. Knits were made of soft tape that crossed at the torso and collar, with ties around the neck finished off as dangling scarves that were tailored to fold back on themselves. With a focus on knits, jackets and tunics, the tailoring featured geometric cutting that only Simons could propose.
