Dries Van Noten, Autumn/Winter 2008 (scroll down to read more)
Dries Van Noten
Dries Van Noten developed his play of prints that was so successful last season. Using complex pattern, printed with up to 40 colours, including marble paper prints, signature scarf motifs and some by Swiss artist Orbis, dating back to the 1920s and printed at the original mill. He took these different elements and exaggerated their scale, mixing the giant (a huge brush stroke actually started as 1 x 1 cm square) with the micro, uniting them through palate. Colour was intense with strong verdants, vivid acids, ethereal pastels and the electric, as in the blue fox. Fur was also 'suggested' in tiny ruffles of torn silk and beading made of wood mocked beads and sequins. It was an homage to dressing up.
