Le Méridien

From specially commissioned lobby artworks to exclusive previews, Le Méridien offers a new perspective on the arts

For the globetrotter in search of a cultural fix, a hotel offering up a creative experience before you’ve even stepped out of the door sounds too good to be true. But a stay at one of Le Méridien’s more than 100 hotels around the world offers just that.

The hotel group has long been committed to providing guests with a unique introduction to the contemporary culture of each of its hotel’s locations. Central to this experience is Le Méridien’s cultural curator, Jérôme Sans, co-founder of the pioneering modern and contemporary arts centre, Palais de Tokyo in Paris. He has established the LM100™, an international group of respected individuals drawn from the arts who help to develop interactive creative experiences for guests.

Most recently, Le Méridien has embarked on an exciting cultural programme that sees each of its hotels – located in some of the world’s most creative hotspots, from Paris to Vienna – play host to a uniquely tailored artistic programme of 'New Perspective' events.

LM100™ cultural innovators work with Sans to put together a series of events encompassing everything from a panel discussion in Istanbul to a private breakfast and viewing of Damien Hirst’s diamond skull artwork For the Love of God at Tate Modern in London.

The group has also launched Le Méridien Hub, a reimagining of each of its hotel’s public spaces into artistic salons, with specially commissioned artworks, such as sculptures, projections and bespoke soundscapes, helping to create a distinct cultural ambience. And, through its Unlock Art™ programme, each hotel has partnered with a local art institution, such as the Tate in London or Secession in Vienna, to provide guests with free entry to exhibitions, galleries and museums through an artist-designed key card, a collector item in its own right.

About Le Méridien

When Starwood Hotels acquired Le Méridien in 2005, it immediately set about injecting the group’s French heritage with a jolt of cultural modernity. With more than 100 properties in 50 countries worldwide, the project was ambitious, but with creative input from Le Méridien’s cultural curator Jérôme Sans, the result is an intelligent synthesis of individually distinct properties within their respective cultural settings. Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts have been transformed into staging areas for contemporary artworks by both established and up-and-coming artists and through partnerships with local cultural institutions, the group has forged a place for itself at the core of the art world. Via the Unlock Art™ programme, guests’ key cards designed by LM100™ members are literally a complimentary ticket to a city’s leading art forums. By any measure, the group’s elevation of the quotidian hotel experience into a cultural one is inspirational.
