Forget fluorescent ceiling lights and musty carpeting, this newly opened stopover hotel on the outskirts of Istanbul doesn’t do mediocre. A short drive from the sun-drenched shores of the Darica Coast, close to the busy motorway that connects Istanbul to Ankara, the box-like glass and concrete structure by local firm Çinici features a graphic chequerboard exterior with clean, minimal interiors in neutral tones by Deer Architects. Minds wearied after a day of driving, can find solace in the pool or spa, or for the more active, the gym is accessible 24-hours a day. The hotel’s restaurant meanwhile serves up a daily menu of Turkish and international fare along with fresh pastries from the on-site bakery.
