The newest hotel to open on the sun-kissed Greek isle of Paros, Parīlio is the work of Athens-based studio, Interior Design Laboratorium, who inserted 33 suites into an existing series of buildings, its simple, clean-lined Cycladic architecture, the ideal frame for the rolling rock-strewn landscape.

Inside, the designers have dressed base materials like exposed concrete, terracotta floors and local marble in a quiet colour palette of white, grey, ochre and sienna, and a mix of bespoke furnishings, vintage finds and contemporary design pieces such as bedside tables from 101 Copenhagen and outdoor furniture by architect Vincent Van Duysen.

The food, from chef Alexandros Tsiotinis, makes the most of the area’s natural bounty, with Greek and Mediterranean dishes like the fresh house made orzo pasta with pork and prunes.

When not sunning yourself on your outdoor terrace or by the resort’s expansive pool, take a ramble up the rocky incline to the top of  Koukounaries Hill, and admire the remains of the ancient Mycenaean Acropolis, along with widespread coastal views, speckled with picturesque whitewashed fishing villages.
