A century old market hall on Helsinki’s waterfront has now been converted into an all-day eatery by a quartet of local restaurateurs and familiar faces on the city’s burgeoning food scene: Anders Westerholm, Matti Sarkkinen, Teemu Aura and Markus Hurskainen. Known for their love of wholesome, handmade fresh fare, the owners have peppered the menu with casual dishes such as salmon soup or over-night roasted pork burgers on the menu. Located in a part of the hall that was once used for the loading of horse carriages, the restaurant’s interiors are by designer of the moment, Joanna Laajisto, who created an intimate space that left the high-ceilinged milieu untouched. Wire fish traps have been converted into lamps and carefully mounted onto the walls, while open shelves furnished with pots of fresh herbs divide the space into subsections. Local wood artisan Tebian has designed and built the wooden tables, which are paired with chairs and stools in colours that pick up the graphic identity created by the good folks at design agency Fabel.
