Wallpaper* invites you to our very own hyggelig Christmas market in London

With Copenhagen being crowned the world’s Best City in this year’s Wallpaper* Design Awards, we thought it was only apt to bring the capital’s creativity, craftsmanship and cosiness to London.

Inspired by the Danish principle of hygge – which roughly translates as an atmosphere of calm togetherness and enjoyment of simple pleasures – a section of King’s Cross’ Granary Square will be transformed into a Wallpaper* winter wonderland, carefully curated by a team of our editors and Denmark’s finest designers. Opening daily between 13 and 18 December, we’d like to invite one and all to huddle under our hyggelic hospitality.

With the refinement we’re known for in mind, and with the generous help of the Danish ambassador Claus Grube, our Hygge Christmas Market features the cream of the crop. Product stalls include the likes of hot property Nordic design names Georg Jensen, Nuori skincare, Skandium and Hay (who are offering the largest collection of their products in London over that week), as well as Danish-inspired wares from Skagen.

After filling your stockings, you can fill your boots with our Scandi-inspired feast. Provided by The Lighterman bar and restaurant, all culinary treats have been hand-selected by those who know the culture like no other – the Danish Embassy itself. Elsewhere, traditional pastries and classic Danish rye will be available from Christoffer Hruskova of The Bread Station, and Kuf Studios will be whipping up delightful Flødeboller. Also on hand to warm the cockles will be a festive glass of Glogg, with a side of Æbleskiver, while those after a refreshing tipple can sip on exclusive beer from Copenhagen gypsy brewery Mikkeller.

All this holiday cheer will be set in an impressive pavilion designed by Danish architects 3XN, inspired by both the Wallpaper* asterisk and the complex structure of snowflakes. These beautifully intricate constructions ’create a flexible structure, where modules, which can be assembled without any adhesive, can "crystallise" in different directions using very few components’, explains Kim Herforth Nielsen, creative director of 3XN. These architectural delights are illuminated by Tivoli Lights, along with Danish stove company Morsø, whose outdoor fires are available for your every s’more toasting need.

Outside the pavilion, Christmas trees kindly donated by Knight Frank will be on sale. All proceeds will go to local children’s charity Coram, celebrating the infectiously inclusive spirit of hygge.
