What makes Paris so interesting is that it never forgets its past, but builds on it instead. Some of its grandest hotels have undergone extensive makeovers, while its traditional museums have signed up to the Nuit Blanche, with longer opening hours and no entrance fees to attract a new crowd. Other innovations in the city, such as the bike share scheme and a river bus service, make the place a joy to get around.
