Jason Atherton is a chef with a lot on his plate. The Michelin-starred proprietor of London’s Pollen Street Social has just opened his third restaurant in the city, this time located on Poland Street in Soho. Called Social Eating House, the eatery is housed over two-storeys and comprises a bistro, bar and extensive basement kitchen complete with an audience-pleasing chef’s table. Interiors are by go-to restaurant designers of choice, Russell Sage Studios and feature an eclectic dining space with exposed brick walls, copper ceilings and weathered leather banquet seating. Meanwhile, continuing with the theme, the bar features atmospheric antique mirrored ceilings and reclaimed wooden chairs. Heading up the kitchen is Atherton’s second in command for six years, Paul Hood, whose menu is an assortment of classic British dishes with an international twist, such as ravioli of wild boar bolognaise and duck smoked ham, egg and chips. Best of all are the tantalising deserts, of which the lemon curd pie is a must.
