Artist Residence hotel review - London, UK
For all the boutique hotels in London, few have the relaxed, homely feel of Artist Residence, the latest from upstart hoteliers Justin Salisbury and Charlotte Newey. A designer’s take on a neighbourhood inn - within walking distance of Victoria station, Belgravia and Sloane Square, yet surrounded by a calm, residential buffer – it is furnished with a considered eye with wares from Europe’s most charming antiquiers. There are Belgian drafting tables put into service as desks and parquet from old schoolhouses, baths from Catchpole & Rye and art from Nelly Duff. The team has decorated two suites and eight ‘house rooms’ in all, and installed critically acclaimed chef Michael Bremner in the restaurant, a former pub. He’s fused a small-plate concept with an affinity for comfort food and come up with a menu that features ‘kimchi chicken wings’ alongside potato dumplings, beef cheeks and grilled mackerel.
