Hotel Zoe — Berlin, Germany
Berlin collective the Amano Group continues to go from strength to strength. It’s fifth property, located in Mitte, is led by the group’s guiding principles of modern design, fair prices and first-class gastronomy. From the exterior, this appears as a hulking great monolith with a dark grey façade, yet step into the lobby and the mood softens as untreated grey concrete walls and black surfaces are mellowed by gold accents, brown suede upholstered seating and warm lighting. In the 88 rooms and 12 apartments, putty-hued walls border rich parquet flooring, providing a serene backdrop for a cool and comfortable design concept realised by local Alex Suessmann of local creative firm Spot On.
Back on the ground floor, and a flamboyance of flamingo sculptures in a winter garden accompanies a breakfast room, introducing a touch of humour to this sophisticated space. G&T Bar — previously located on Friedrichstrasses — is reincarnated here as the Gin & Tonic Bar, a sultry watering hole in which multiple variations of the popular drink combination are served up alongside a seasonal cocktail menu. To fully appreciate Zoe’s prime location, guests should visit the hotel’s rooftop terrace, which offers views of the Berlin Televison Tower and the Alexanderplatz.
