Artist Laura Baldassari and designer Alberto Biagetti present their extravagant take on the gym. Drawing inspiration from archetypal 1960s gymnasium shapes, the pair gave new life to wall bars, vaulting horses, weights and hanging rings, modelled after a vintage aesthetic and enriched with precious and unexpected materials such as silver calfskin mixed with bright blue horse hair, navy fur next to neoprene, nude leather alongside brass and pink crystal combined with steel. Although an aesthetic exercise, the pieces have new functions: a row of gymnastic rings is turned into a chandelier, while steel weights form the base for a glass table. Developed in collaboration with design guru Maria Cristina Didero, the collection is a humorous comment on society’s obsession with the body.
