New York Design Week 2018 preview

Although following hot on the heels of Salone del Mobile on the design calendar, NYCxDesign (11–23 May) has stayed the course to become a vibrant, inspiring showcase of American design and creativity. This year’s iteration is set to be especially dynamic with a slew of independent designers and collectives debuting new wares on their own terms and turf. Even the behemoth International Contemporary Furniture Fair, the week’s original anchor, has shaken things up this year. Here are some of the highlights in store for the week. Writer: Pei-ru Keh

Collective Concept at ICFF

Since its launch in 2016, Collective Design fair’s Collective Concept has served to enable practising designers in the fields of furniture and lighting to showcase their creative (and often artistic) processes. Following on from the fair’s move to March this year, Collective Design Fair has partnered with the stalwart ICFF to provide a platform for collectible design within the Jacob Javits Centre. The designers participating in this inaugural collaboration includes Crosby Studio, Allied Maker, Fort Standard and Jeff Martin Joinery. Pictured: Alabaster floor totem. Courtesy Allied Maker
