A must-see in the summer months while enjoying the sunshine of Sardinia is the now well-established Biennial of Sardinian Handicrafts. This year, the 19th edition of the show, brings together 250 handcrafted objects, conceived by 33 international designers and produced in 60 Sardinian artisan workshops. We uncovered real gems including ceramics by Antonello Cuccu, Paolo Ulian and Annalisa Cocco; a fantastic cork chair by Tomoko Mizu; and a beautiful knife set by Giulio Lacchetti.

Over at La Promenade du Port, in Porto Cervo, the epicentre of the Costa Smeralda, Rossana Orlandi, our favourite Milanese gallerist-cum-retailer, set up shop for the summer with a special show for Maarten Baas, bringing designers Sebastien Dãschle and Nacho Carbonell along for company and persuading the likes of Alberto Aspesi as well as London’s Fumi Gallery and Tom Dixon to set up store beside her. All that design, along with the big boats in the harbour and small jets on the tarmac, gave it a Design Miami feel.
