Spike Jonze directs trippy short for Apple’s HomePod, dancing FKA Twigs included

Apple has released a four-minute short for its HomePod, Welcome Home, directed by filmmaker Spike Jonze. Set to Anderson Paak’s new song ‘Til It’s Over (available on Apple Music, of course), the surreal spot stars English singer and dancer FKA Twigs who injects just the right amount of theatrics into the charming video.
In the film, a dejected Twigs arrives home after a busy commute, asking her HomePod, ‘Hey Siri, play me something I’d like.’ From there, the living room warps and opens up to reveal a rainbow wormhole, with Twigs eventually engaging in a dance-off with a mirror image of herself.
Jonze, an Oscar winner (and former Wallpaper* Design Awards judge), is no stranger to dance. He helped choreograph Fatboy Slim videos in the late 1990s; more recently he made waves with his memorable fragrance ad for Kenzo in 2016. Jonze collaborated again with Carol Lim and Humberto Leon during New York Fashion Week in September 2017, writing and directing the dance performance Changers for Opening Ceremony’s S/S18 collection.
The Jonze-directed short is the first in a series of longer-form commercials for the HomePod. It’s fun stuff from the technology brand, which hasn’t shied away from art-led advertising pushes for its products. Apple’s HomePod has been available for purchase since February (read our HomePod review and see more smart home speakers), retailing for $349.
